Las Flores Middle School

A California Distinguished School 2000 and 2005

Dear Parents:

Las Flores Middle School boasts a caring and nurturing staff that is dedicated to excellence, high achievement and promoting the well being of all students.   LFMS is located in the foothills of the Saddleback Mountains in South Orange County and is one of ten middle schools in the Capistrano Unified School District.   LFMS opened in September 1997 and the following year an elementary opened on the same site.   LFMS currently serves the students in grades six, seven and eight.

At Las Flores we are dedicated to high standards and our test scores reflect these high expectations.   Though we are already a high performing school, our API grew an additional 16 points during the school 2006-07 school year. Teachers meet weekly during our Accelerated Collaboration for Excellence or ACE time to develop curriculum and discuss best teaching practices.

Our Performing Arts department is outstanding offering full band, choir, orchestra and drama classes.   We participated in Students Run Los Angeles and had 14 of our students finish the LA Marathon.   We participate in Academic Pentathlon, the OC Spelling Bee, and Destination Imagination.    We are thrilled to have a fitness center complete with a weight room/cardio center and a fitness room offering classes in aerobics, yoga, as well as workout equipment that will help promote our goal to teach our students lifelong fitness.   Many intervention programs have been established to help at-risk students, including before school reading and math classes, sixth grade study skills classes, social science literacy classes, a mentoring program, a school counselor, and a Homework Club after school.

Parents can access student homework, grades, and the school calendar through our Edline web site. Our PTA generously donated the funds so that every student and parent at Las Flores can stay informed about their assignments and progress. Learning technology is part of every students’ curriculum.   We have a full service technology laboratory that offers students the opportunities to learn career based experiences.   Through our Social Sciences classes students create web pages, iMovies and Power Point presentations.   Students learn the value of community service by participating in the Bear Pride Award program. Additionally, our Pal and our Impact mentoring program teach students leadership skills as well as character education.  By volunteering at school and in the community by maintaining good grades, and receiving outstanding citizenship grades students receive recognition for their hard work and efforts by winning a Bear Pride Award.

We are proud of Las Flores Middle School and our Professional Learning Community. We work together with parents for the successful education of all children!
